Performs System Reliability functions to improve and enhance the reliability performance of the transmission system to meet the needs of Members and corporate goals.
Roles & Responsibilities- E-IV – Identifies ways to best utilize existing equipment monitoring data to proactively identify problems and prevent failures, researches and identifies additional monitoring opportunities; collaborates with SR department personnel, FOC departments, and ITS partners to continually improve reliability performance; serves as an SR contact for other departments to ensure that products and reports meet their needs; assists other department staff with outage investigation, clearance mitigation, benchmarking, project justification, relaying, and lightning issues.
- E-V – Designs and executes test plans for implementing new data systems; develops ways to use engineering data for system analysis, such as in the Engineering Data Diagnostic Center; coordinates and conducts engineering studies, research, and analysis of equipment, software, reliability data, trends, and processes to increase system reliability performance; represents corporate interests with GPC, MEAG, Dalton, and external organizations (GA Tech, EPRI, IEEE);
provides assistance to other department staff with outage investigation, clearance mitigation, benchmarking, project justification, relaying, lightning issues; provides technical guidance to other engineering departments; mentors less experienced engineers and staff.
- Education – B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience E-IV – Six (6) years of experience (four (4) with P.E.) with at least two (2) years of planning, protection, maintenance, and/or operations experience with transmission systems at an electric utility.
- Experience E-V – Eight (8) years of experience (six (6) with P.E.) with at least four (4) years of planning, protection, maintenance, and/or operations experience with transmission systems at an electric utility.
- E-IV – At least ten (10) years of experience in transmission planning, protection, construction, maintenance, reliability, and/or operations with an electric utility.
- E-V – At least twelve (12) years of experience in transmission planning, protection, construction, maintenance, reliability, and/or operations with an electric utility.
Valid Georgia Driver's License. EIT and PE are applicable but not required.
Specialized SkillsProficient with Microsoft Excel, graphics, and data manipulation; experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, large databases, and Microsoft Access; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to independently plan, organize, and successfully complete assignments; capable of preparing and delivering presentations to various groups; knowledge of construction and maintenance work functions; additional knowledge of System Security Analysis, transmission relaying, metering, data historian, supervisory and control systems;
teamwork and leadership skills.
- Broad-based understanding and working knowledge of aspects of the functions and operating practices of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System.
- Ability to work independently and with others to recognize and resolve operating problems.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Must be able to pass ITS qualified operator training course.
- Must be able to pass NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening.
