Overview
The primary role of this position is to provide engineering and compliance expertise in connection with OPC's ERO Compliance Program, including CIP Standards.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with plant personnel to complete plant validation testing in accordance with ERO requirements (e.g., real, reactive, excitation, and other tests), and monitor compliance with ERO maintenance requirements.
- Provide technical expertise to assist in maintaining, updating or creating ERO program documents, updating, developing, and facilitating training programs, developing and maintaining compliance monitoring and tracking systems, and supporting plants for testing and reporting requirements.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries, FERC/NERC/SERC advisories, provide comments on proposed new and revised standards, and perform periodic data submittals as required by SERC and NERC.
- Provide engineering support to capital project teams to ensure the design and construction of new plants are consistent with ERO standards.
Job Duties
- Develop and certify all technical content to meet NERC Reliability Standards related to GO and GOP, including coordination with Plant Management, Technical Services, and other Subject Matter Experts to ensure OPC compliance with plant performance and maintenance requirements per NERC Standards.
- Assist in creating and maintaining ERO documentation (Procedures, Guidelines, and Policies;
Plant Level Procedures; Technical Services Plant Procedures; OPC Operations and Technical Services Handbooks) and continuously improve OPC's Internal Controls Program. - Prepare engineering analyses on how new or revised Reliability Standards relate to OPC's generation assets and provide recommendations for process or operational changes to achieve compliance.
- Create and implement NERC-required training programs using the Learning Management System and provide in-person training at plants when necessary.
- Conduct or participate in compliance audits.
- Develop and ensure accuracy of technical content in data submittals and reports to BA, RC, TP, TOP, or other entities, and respond to FERC/NERC advisories and submittals as needed for OPC compliance.
- Coordinate with technical staff in GSOC and GTC to fulfill contractual agreements and ensure proper coordination for NERC balloting efforts and updates to compliance activities within the FOC.
- Education
:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering - Experience
: 10+ years in the electric utility industry, plus 5 years of direct experience with FERC/NERC ERO Standards. Experience in power generation and general knowledge of power system operations, transmission, and power systems engineering. Previous compliance oversight experience with FERC/NERC ERO Standards is desirable. - Specialized Skills
:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; experience with Maximo Work Orders and Preventive Maintenance; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; understanding of electric system engineering issues related to NERC Reliability Standards. - Licenses/Certifications
:
Engineering licenses (EIT, PE) are useful but not required
- Travel: 20%
- Unusual hours:
Occasional travel to plants, extended schedules including weekends and evenings as needed
Salary: $135,000 - $165,000 per year
