Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background and may include, but is not limited to, A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. The job is complex and requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients.

The SPT I must be able to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change daily. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction. Flexibility and adaptability to daily changes are required. The SPT I will work primarily night shift but may be required on weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.

• Provide general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• Perform data entry at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Operate A-station, presort, pickup, delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting processes.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards in a production environment.
• Work safely in a biohazard environment, following core safety habits.
• Sit or stand for long periods and keep the work area neat and clean.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a positive work environment.
• Show flexibility and adaptability to changing demands.

HS diploma or equivalent.

Basic understanding of computers with preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.

No experience required but previous laboratory experience preferred.

Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.

Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.

Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
