Lab Assistant II - Histology - Tucker, GA

Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Perform routine and limited non‑routine functions to prepare histopathology samples.

$17.20+ per hour. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus.

• Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists under general supervision and according to policies and procedures.
• Receive, collect, label, and prepare tissue specimens for gross dissection.
• Maintain and clean equipment.
• Cover slip stained slides manually and with automated systems.
• Perform routine H&E staining either manually or automated.
• Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining under direct supervision.
• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
• Perform clerical duties.
• Run and/or monitor pending lists.
• Generate and maintain department statistics.
• Monitor inventory and requisition supplies; stock and maintain laboratory supplies.
• Maintain work area, glassware and laboratory equipment.
• Comply with all health, quality and safety policies, procedures and practices. Use personal protective equipment.
• Assist technical staff with limited technical functions, with appropriate education and training.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required

Work Experience:

• One (1) year of histopathology or other laboratory experience.
• One (1) year of experience handling PHI and other patient information using an LIS.

Preferred

Work Experience:

• Three (3) years of histopathology or other laboratory experience, including providing support to pathologists.

• Lifting 1 to 10 pounds frequently; 11 to 25 pounds occasionally; 36 to 50 pounds seldom; over 50 pounds not lifted without assistance.
• Stand and work at the bench for long periods.
• Frequent walking and/or standing.
• Use a variety of laboratory instruments demanding manual dexterity.

• Basic knowledge of operating non‑complex instrumentation.

• Follow a series of steps without confusion or errors.
• Detail‑oriented, work independently, establish priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously.
• Communicate and interact courteously and effectively with supervisors, co‑workers and clients.
• Maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Keyboard speed 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
• Some college science courses preferred.
