Job Description
OverviewSpecimen Processing Supervisor – Tucker, GA - Monday-Friday 11:00pm-7:00am; flexibility required.
Responsibilities- Supervise functions within the Specimen Processing department, which may include Specimen Processing, Test in Question/Problem Resolution, Imaging/Microfilming.
- Oversee daily operations of Specimen Processing, all compliance training, training of personnel, and monitoring department quality and productivity.
- Maintain a safe, ergonomically sound, professional environment. Know and understand all functions of the department.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for Specimen Processing in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines.
- Review the Specimen Processing SOP Manual biannually; identify the need for revisions and/or additional SOPs as indicated.
- Ensure feasible licensure requirements are met (as applicable) in coordination with QA and Medical Director’s offices.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and reviewed for internal and external inspections/audits.
- Ensure employees meet Compliance Guidelines and Competency Testing; provide adequate training and annual competency evaluation.
- Monitor incoming workflow from Logistics and adjust to ensure adequate specimen supply to technical departments.
- May supervise packing and shipping of specimens to other laboratories in accordance with IATA regulations.
- Monitor specimen integrity and manage special handling of Jeopardized, Hospital, and Vital specimens.
- Demonstrate leadership in employee relations, scheduling, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and team meetings.
- Foster a participative work environment and disseminate essential information to staff in a timely manner.
- Assist with time/attendance tracking, month-end reports, and department scheduling to ensure adequate coverage.
- Oversee and ensure adequate supply inventory; drive continuous process improvement and standardization initiatives.
- Participate in interviewing, selection, and hiring; coach, develop, supervise, and plan succession for staff.
- Monitor ongoing performance; administer corrective action and annual performance reviews.
- Assist in fiscal management, including cost containment, overtime management, and capital expenditure needs.
- Participate in Quest Management System (QMS) and Process Improvement Teams to meet business objectives; organize and lead projects with cross-functional groups.
- Meet deadlines and collaborate with technical departments to resolve problems while maintaining professional interactions with clients and staff.
- Internal candidates require a minimum of two years in a Group Leader/related role.
- 5 years experience in a laboratory;
Medical or production background preferred. - Previous people leadership experience preferred.
- Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
- Handles multiple tasks in a production environment.
- Requires mental alertness and high energy to perform job duties.
- PC skills, MS Office applications.
- Excellent leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
- Monitor and provide a safe work environment; prepare incident reports and implement preventative measures.
- Professional conduct at all times; ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs, including extended hours.
- Knowledge of systems tools such as COGNOS, Oracle, EMPower, Kronos.
