Job Summary

The Business Developer (BD) works to improve Bright View’s market position and achieve profitable financial growth. This role helps to achieve long‑term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates, and closes business deals, and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The BD manages the sales pipeline from prospecting to closing and is responsible for the full cycle of landscape and, depending on region, snow sales.

The BD collaborates with partners including operations, finance, marketing, and more to manage responses to bids in an effort to meet sales targets.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with prospective customers to discover their “points of pain” and develop solutions.
  • Accurately forecast sales deliverables and KPIs.
  • Achieve sales goals and be able to work independently.
  • Perform sales prospecting using consultative sales techniques to build long‑standing business relationships, marketing, and pricing.
  • Prepare and conduct heavy phone prospecting, sales presentations, virtual demonstrations, and handle contract negotiations with minimum supervision.
  • Identify customer needs and utilize solution‑based selling techniques to fully demonstrate the value of Bright View services.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospects and existing clients.
  • Build and maintain trust‑based professional relationships with key decision makers.
  • Plan daily and hit specific activity benchmarks and close business.
  • Log activity consistently and reliably in CRM (Salesforce).
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment while operating with a high sense of urgency.
  • Communicate proactively with all decision makers and influencers.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive face‑to‑face (B2B) selling experience at the mid‑to‑senior levels, 3‑5 years of experience.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and able to multi‑task in a large territory.
  • Proficient with computer programs including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with a CRM or SFA tool.
  • Proven track record of sales goal attainment and pipeline management.
  • Highly competitive, positive, and results‑driven.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to build client‑centric and solution/value‑based proposals.
  • Working experience with social media.
  • Local knowledge and contacts in one or more market segments preferred.
  • Ability to be self‑motivated and self‑directed.
  • Experience in the service industry with commercial contract sales desirable.
Physical Demands/Requirements
  • Constant operation of a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, cell phone, and sales programs/tools.
  • Position is a combination of mobile and sedentary work; must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Customarily and regularly spends more than half of the time working away from Bright View’s places of business selling and obtaining orders or contracts for Bright View’s services.
  • Ability to travel by car, train, and plane.
  • Position needs to be able to traverse uneven grounds and walk on jobsites with clients and branch teams for periods of time up to 4 hours.
Work Environment
  • Works both indoors and outdoors.
  • Field‑based position, combination of office and customer‑facing.
