OverviewThe Building Inspector III performs skilled inspections of residential and light commercial construction to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal building codes. The role requires applying commercial building codes in at least one discipline and demonstrates greater on-site responsibility, technical knowledge, and communication skills. Employees may progress to this class from the Building Inspector II by meeting specific performance and proficiency criteria.
Responsibilities- Conduct building inspections by video and in person of new and existing residential and commercial construction to verify compliance with adopted building codes (ICC Building Codes), regulations, ordinances, policies, and approved construction documents.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections by entering data and comments into the City of Tucson permitting system.
- Communicate inspection results and follow-up actions to customers via phone or email.
- Provide advice, clarification, education, and training to residential Building Inspectors; monitor progress, establish timelines, review reports, promote morale, and recommend improvements.
- Review complex blueprints and technical construction documents to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Investigate and resolve complex customer complaints while maintaining respect and integrity.
- Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Four (4) years of directly related experience in compliance, inspections, construction, or building code enforcement.
- International Code Council (ICC) Combination Residential Inspector Certification.
- One of the following ICC certifications:
Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, or Accessibility Inspector.
- Experience inspecting residential and commercial properties for code compliance.
- Journeyman-level experience in one of the building construction trades.

Non-Exempt
Position Type:
Regular
Full Hourly Range: $24.16 - $41.68 USD
Work includes frequent driving to inspection sites and outdoor field work.
