Hiring Range: $51,563 – $61,859 annually (estimated based on skills, experience, etc.)
Pay Range: $51,563 – $72,176 annually (full compensation range)
- Assist in researching, investigating and applying interior design standards for new construction, remodeled and tenant improvement projects under the management and operational control of the Project Design & Construction Department.
- Conduct research on manufacturing processes, product design, performance characteristics, specifications and durability and make recommendations for adoption into the County’s design standards.
- Investigate, identify and document the interior design needs and requirements of clients.
- Analyze needs and requirements, propose options and work with clients to develop specific solutions.
- Develop design documents including contract‑working drawings, specifications and budget estimates using PC‑based productivity software programs and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) format.
- Conduct research to determine applicable building codes, state and federal guidelines and other regulatory issues related to the interior design component of projects.
- Coordinate and participate in design projects performed either in‑house or by outsourced contractors.
- Provide guidance to staff involved in the procurement of labor, materials, furniture, fixtures or equipment in compliance with the Pima County Procurement Code and established County design standards.
- Establish and maintain project files including verbal, written or graphic communications needed for compliance with Pima County Policies or department guidelines.
- Review and approve project invoices for conformance to specifications and payment.
- Maintain current project budgets for periodic reports.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or professional trade school with a major in interior design or architecture AND two years of professional work experience as an Interior Designer, Interior Design Assistant, or Architect.
- Or, six years of professional experience as an Interior Designer, Interior Design Assistant, Architect OR two years with Pima County in a Design Specialist position.
- Professional certification from the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) as an Interior Designer may substitute for the above education and experience.
- Interior design degree from an accredited university.
- Experience in interior design, including governmental offices, legal and law enforcement, judicial, health clinics, community centers, and libraries.
- Experience with modular systems furniture design and installation.
- Experience with researching product standards for commercial facilities based on life cycle, durability, ease of maintenance, and design consistency.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Auto‑CAD 2021 (or later), Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Knowledge of current building codes.
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.
