Overview
Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) in Tucson, Arizona is seeking a full-time Physician Radiologist with Nuclear Medicine specialty. The successful candidate will have completed a Radiology residency and substantial experience in Nuclear Medicine interpretation or a recently completed fellowship in Nuclear Medicine Imaging, with the ability to interpret General Radiologic studies as needed.
DutiesThe Radiology Service encompasses clinical and administrative responsibilities. Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Examinations – interpret radiological examinations promptly using appropriate clinical, laboratory and other pertinent data; provide follow-up when indicated.
- Diagnosis – interpret and evaluate radiological data to determine diagnosis and clinical status; correct diagnosis when necessary.
- Therapeutic Ability – initiate timely interpretation; recognize changes in patient status during and after examinations and modify treatment plans as indicated; assess personal capabilities and limitations.
- Patient Management – maintain patient confidentiality and engage in consultative roles to involve patients in treatment and management plans.
- Consultations and Specialty Skills – act as a radiology consultant in developing, implementing and evaluating diagnoses and treatments; recognize the need for consultation with other facility specialty areas.
- Record Keeping – promptly and accurately report examinations and changes in patient status; maintain clear, current clinical records in accordance with hospital regulations.
Other responsibilities include resident and technologist education; review of pre-procedure labs; protocoling radiology studies; participation in peer review and quality management activities; involvement in SAVAHCS committees such as the multidisciplinary tumor board. The successful candidate must be eligible for academic appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level at the University of Arizona.

- Active and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or osteopathic medicine (DO)
- Board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology/American Board of Nuclear Medicine
- Significant experience with nuclear medicine study interpretation (including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, nuclear cardiac stress testing) and therapies, or recently completed a nuclear medicine fellowship with Authorized User experience
- Ability to review and protocol routine, inpatient, and urgent nuclear medicine requests; collaborate with nuclear medicine technologists to optimize imaging
- Ability to interpret examinations related to other radiologic specialties (plain radiographs, body imaging, fluoroscopic exams) is highly preferred
- Ability to teach and train residents/fellows
- Work Schedule:
Full-time, permanent, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; may include on-call coverage
