Job Summary

The Pima County Public Library is seeking a full‑time Librarian specializing in Adult Services at the Nanini Library. The hired candidate will coordinate and provide community‑focused programs and services for adults, including book clubs, literary events, job assistance, tech help, and 3D printing programs. The role also involves collaborating with community partners to host programs supporting English language learning, citizenship classes, economic and workforce development, and services for unhoused patrons.

The librarian will plan an annual budget, supervise staff and volunteers, and serve as in‑charge staff member on a regular basis.

Shift work may be required, including evenings and weekends.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee assigned service area, developing and coordinating services for all public members, including vulnerable populations.
  • Assume supervisory duties in the library as assigned.
  • Assist patrons in locating and using library resources, technology, and equipment.
  • Develop, facilitate, and present evidence‑based educational programs and services, including early literacy, community outreach, youth advisory boards, and computer/technology instruction in person or virtually.
  • Supervise employees, volunteers, and interns through training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
  • Implement public service best practices, including culturally competent programming, public relations, conflict resolution, and complaint handling.
  • Use conflict management skills to de‑escalate volatile situations and document related incidents.
  • Perform facilities management duties, monitoring maintenance and resolving operational or technical issues.
  • Participate in systemwide committees focused on youth services, adult services, strategic directions, and core values; attend relevant professional training.
  • Manage, coordinate, and prioritize workflow, including resource monitoring, timeline setting, task assignment, progress tracking, and report preparation.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, AND a minimum of three years of experience in libraries, customer service, education, social services, or a comparable field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • At least one year of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • At least one year of experience working in a public library.
  • At least one year of experience working with adults.
Selection Procedure

The Human Resources Department will admit only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. Selected candidates may be further evaluated against preferred qualifications. Additional assessments or tests may be required. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.

  • Valid driver’s license is required at the time of application; valid AZ driver’s license at appointment.
  • Applicant will be subject to a 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review.
  • Required pre‑employment background checks will be conducted after offer.
