Primary FunctionUnder the direction of the Bishop and the administrative direction of the Moderator of the Curia, provide leadership and support to Catholic school administrators and teachers. Direct the operation of all schools in the diocese; serve as an advocate for the Catholic school community and as a link with local, state, and national governments and appropriate educational agencies. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received."

- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Manage and perform the administration of the Office of the Superintendent of Schools with effectiveness, timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail under Catholic Doctrine and Catholic Principles of morality.
- Direct and approve school certification through the Western Catholic Education and the North Central Association and ensure the schools follow the qualifications of these accrediting agencies.
- Direct operations by planning, coordinating, evaluating and implementing programs; serve as executive officer of the Diocesan School Board, be responsible for implementing Board policies and decisions, provide consultation and evaluate personnel as needed, prepare the Diocesan school calendar, conduct administrative meetings and annually visit all schools.
- Establish, direct, and coordinate committees for curriculum development, evaluation and revision, and assist and guide principals.
- Review budgets for the school; work with the schools on fiscal planning and determining priorities. Recommend distribution of funds from grants, gifts, and the Catholic School collections.
- Prepare, propose, and monitor Catholic School department budget.
- Maintain liaison with local and state governments, the State Department of Education, and the national Catholic Education Association; keep abreast of legislative issues affecting Catholic schools.
- Promote effective public relations with the Catholic School community and with local public and private schools.
- Promote collaboration between the schools and other parish organizations.
- Further the growth of the Catholic schools by conducting research and analysis of the needs of the Diocese and implementing appropriate actions.
- Consult with school personnel to determine needs; recommend policies to the Diocesan School Board; direct implementation and evaluation of such policies.
- Oversee the application of state standards for certification of teachers and review applications; oversee the hiring of principals for Catholic schools.
