Facilities Process Engineer – Roche

Position

We are seeking a proactive Facilities Process Engineer to oversee and enhance the daily operations of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chillers, cold storage, and the Central Utility Plant (CUP). Use your expertise in mechanical engineering, process optimization, and energy management to streamline processes, minimize downtime, and maximize efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze existing HVAC, controls and electrical system processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvement strategies for optimal resource use, cost savings, and increased throughput.
  • Ensure all Central Utilities Plant ammonia processes and training align with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Provide strong vendor management oversight to control costs, ensure excellent service delivery, minimize safety risks, equipment downtime, and drive optimum asset life.
  • Focus on critical spare parts definition to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Gather and interpret operational data to monitor performance metrics, generate reports, and recommend process improvements.
  • Investigate causes of equipment downtime, analyze data to identify patterns, and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate downtime.
  • Work with the maintenance team to create and improve preventive and predictive maintenance plans that enhance equipment reliability and extend asset lifespan.
  • Identify sources of operational and production losses, including equipment inefficiencies and process bottlenecks, and implement solutions to minimize waste and improve productivity.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues using methodologies such as 5‑Whys or Fishbone diagrams.
  • Monitor and analyze KPIs related to downtime, maintenance, and losses, and prepare regular reports to communicate findings and improvement opportunities.
  • Define scopes of work and supervise contract labor for small and medium projects.
  • Supervise contractor evaluation and selection process, and manage contractor inspection to ensure safety and compliance.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field). Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • 5 years in preventative maintenance practices, preferably in a biotech or diagnostic regulated industry.
  • 5+ years operating and maintaining complex mechanical systems (e.g., central utility plant).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of HVAC, utilities, electrical, and energy management systems.
  • Experience in process engineering focused on maintenance and reliability in industrial, manufacturing, or facilities environments.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis, problem‑solving techniques, and maintenance management principles.
  • Knowledge of reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance tools, and loss minimization methodologies.
  • Strong vendor management experience to develop agreements, control costs, ensure excellent service, and minimize risks.

Salary

Expected salary range in Arizona: $80,800 – $150,000 USD annual. Pay is determined by experience, qualifications, geography, and other permitted factors. A discretionary annual bonus may be available.
