Electrical Engineering (EE) Section – Pr. Electronic Materials Failure Analyst
The Electrical Engineering (EE) Section of the Materials and Process Engineering Department at Raytheon is seeking a highly experienced engineer to lead the failure analysis of electronic materials. The role is located onsite in Tucson, AZ, and requires an active U.S. Secret security clearance. This position is a U.S.
-based role and is essential for safeguarding our national security interests.
- Apply your knowledge of electrical component materials—including ceramics, glasses, metal wire bonding, component staking, conformal coating, and solder—to document and analyze failure events.
- Conduct a full analysis cycle: initial evaluation, photo‑documentation, electrical testing, destructive testing, and composition of a final report that substantiates any failure conclusions.
- Determine the root cause of failures using laboratory equipment and techniques such as digital photo‑documentation, SEM‑EDS, Sono‑scan, and various destructive methods.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or equivalent, plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; an advanced degree can substitute for additional experience.
- Proven experience in electronic component failure analysis and in evaluating microcircuits, both active and passive.
- Hands‑on knowledge of component materials and failure mechanisms.
- Familiarity with government component documents (MIL‑STD, MIL‑PRF, MIL‑HDBK) and QPL/QML specifications.
- Experience testing RF devices and interconnects.
- Strong data collection, presentation, and report‑writing skills, including the ability to present findings.
- Capability to manage multiple analyses concurrently.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and electrical test equipment (DMM, Curve Tracer, Parametric Analyzers).
- Operating knowledge of electronic component parts, electrical schematics, and circuit analysis.
- Advanced degree and ABET accreditation are preferred.
- Competitive Salary: $101,000 – $203,000 USD, with annual incentive opportunities.
