Job SummaryDesign and develop emergency lighting products and related circuitry, assist in implementation and distribution to manufacturing, guide PCB and enclosure designs, apply power electronics and battery technologies, conduct feasibility studies, and maintain high standards of ethical conduct.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities- Design and develop new products such as emergency lighting, low-frequency inverters, and related electronics to meet quality, reliability, performance, and cost targets.
- Design and develop battery charger and management circuits, including smart chargers for Ni-Cad and lithium batteries.
- Coordinate and hold design reviews, provide deliverables such as BOM, schematics, drawings, PCB documentation, specifications, and test data.
- Supervise or coordinate the work of other engineers to introduce new products to manufacturing.
- Prepare and coordinate prototype samples for UL client test data program and production.
- Assist product engineers with manufacturing documentation for PCB layout, mechanical design, and equipment restrictions.
- Develop and execute reliability studies, including on-site/off-site installations and reliability tests.
- Participate in ALT, HALT, PTC and other reliability/quality tests programs.
- Write and provide manufacturing guidelines and test specifications for new products, materials, or processes.
- Determine appropriate materials and participate in test programs for new materials.
- Specify and monitor tests for product compliance with standards such as UL, FCC, etc.
- Evaluate product performance to support QA, manufacturing, and field service functions.
- Issue complete reports on performance of new or improved products.
- Participate in initial production phase manufacturing inquiries and problems.
- Make technical decisions based on data, consulting with senior engineers as needed.
- Use judgment to overcome minor technical problems, seek guidance on unusual cases.
- Evaluate and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures independently.
- Minimum:
Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering. - Preferred:
Master of Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in power electronics design and development.
- Hands‑on bench‑top power electronics design; knowledge of electronics for lighting helpful.
- Strong electronics lab skills and test equipment usage.
- Strong electrical engineering skills.
- Experience with schematic and PCB design tools, especially Altium Designer.
- Teamwork in a matrix organization and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Proficiency with PC, spreadsheets, word processing, and drawing packages.
- Analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Project management, balancing innovation with schedule and urgency.
- Knowledge of UL, FCC, EMI, CEC compliance standards.
- Embedded microcontroller knowledge helpful.
- Project, timeline, and budget management experience.
- Medium work.
