Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Dev/Research Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full-time in Tucson, AZ at the Proving Ground
, Monday–Friday on a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM schedule (9/80 schedule optional). This is a long-term 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $32.48/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Research Engineer to support test and validation activities on large mining equipment. This engineer will work hands‑on with mechanical systems, supporting machine‑level testing, diagnosing equipment issues, reviewing design specifications, and preparing documentation. The role includes direct collaboration with engineers, mechanics, operators, and technicians while contributing to system‑level testing and validation of mechanical and software functionality. This is an ideal opportunity for an early‑career engineer who enjoys hands‑on work, problem‑solving, and working around heavy equipment in both shop and field settings.
- Plan, execute, and document machine‑level testing for large mining equipment
- Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and mechanical devices
- Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine project feasibility
- Investigate equipment failures, diagnose faulty operation, and recommend corrective actions
- Assist drafters in developing structural design using engineering tools or CAD software
- Create sketches, drawings, and documentation to support engineering decisions
- Work hands‑on around equipment to support validation, data collection, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate daily with engineers, mechanics, operators, supply chain, and logistics teams
- 2+ years of experience (internships accepted)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and computer‑generated reports
- Hands‑on troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
- Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail
- Experience with CAD software and engineering‑related computer applications
- Experience with data acquisition systems
- Background in hands‑on mechanical environments (construction, automotive, equipment, or similar)
- Experience supporting system‑level validation or field testing
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
