Overview
Sion Power, the global leader in the development of a new generation of high-energy, rechargeable lithium batteries for portable power, is currently searching for a Coating Equipment Engineer to be based at its research and development facility in Tucson, Arizona. Sion's exciting new technology package yields a battery system with the highest theoretical gravimetric and volumetric energy densities of any battery and offers significant improvements in performance over current rechargeable batteries.
PositionSummary
This position will support the coating work related to Sion's Licerion batteries by upgrading and maintaining the equipment and auxiliary processes. This will involve both improvement and maintenance of existing systems, and supporting other equipment projects and engineering teams related to the coating department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Design and implement improvements to the electrode coating and converting equipment
- This may require the creation and interpretation of engineering drawings as well as operation of CAD software
- Assist in improvement and maintenance of the electrode coating and converting equipment
- Establish and coordinate the execution of the preventive maintenance schedule
- Primary responsibilities include:
- design and implementation of equipment upgrades to the coating and web converting equipment
- maintenance of the coating and converting equipment as well as auxiliary systems
- assisting other engineering groups with the fabrication and implementation of modifications to the electrode coating and converting equipment
- Source components and materials for equipment projects and work with external vendors when necessary
- Review results in consultation with team members, develop and implement process improvement plans, and optimize anode performance in accordance with company goals.
- Other duties as required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree
- At least three (3) years' work experience in the field of vacuum deposition, slot die coating, and/or web converting
- The ability to interpret chemical analyses and characterizations of materials and coatings.
- Must be capable of performing independent data analysis including ability to make observations, draw scientific conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Preferred Skills Include:
- Ability to MIG/TIG weld and run a conversational mill
- Brazing
- Lathe operation
- Web system alignment
- Servicing the following types of pumps: oil diffusion, rotary vane, turbomolecular, syringe and diaphragm
Ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries and customers, based on the assumption that such individuals can only speak and understand English. This position also requires the ability to present information and data to large groups of people.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of the job, the employee will be required to regularly use a PC, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, lift objects, speak, hear, and write. The employee may need to work in a dry room (~-60 °C Dew Point) for 6 or more hours a day employee may be required to handle and transport packaged chemicals. Working with potentially hazardous and/or toxic chemicals, with appropriate protective clothing and apparatus, though infrequent, is required.
The employee should be able to lift and move 25 pounds and could be called upon to lift or move up to 50 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The candidate will be immersed in a fast-paced environment. This person must be able to adapt quickly, meet deadlines and goals, and interface with all levels of employees both internal and external to the company. While performing the duties of this job, the person will occasionally work near hazardous and/or toxic chemicals, energized electronic and manufacturing equipment.
