Advance the Technology Behind Mission-Critical Defense Systems
Legion Technical Solutions (LTS) is seeking an experienced Principal Digital Design Engineer to support the development of advanced digital electronics for sophisticated defense and aerospace applications.
This opportunity is ideal for an accomplished electrical engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, takes ownership of hardware designs from concept through production, and enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
As a Principal Digital Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, analyzing, simulating, testing, and integrating complex digital electronic modules and circuit card assemblies (CCAs) used in next-generation defense systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of complex digital electronic circuits, modules, and multi-assembly hardware systems.
- Take hardware designs from initial requirements and architectural concepts through detailed design, verification, integration, and production.
- Develop digital hardware architectures, including block diagrams, circuit designs, and detailed schematics.
- Design sophisticated multilayer printed circuit boards (PCBs) and circuit card assemblies (CCAs) incorporating processors, FPGAs, memory devices, and high-speed digital interfaces.
- Perform circuit analysis, simulation, and design verification to ensure electrical performance, reliability, and compliance with system requirements.
- Collaborate with PCB layout engineers to establish and implement critical design constraints.
- Conduct component selection, engineering trade studies, and technical evaluations.
- Support integration of hardware with FPGA firmware and embedded software.
- Develop and execute hardware test plans, perform laboratory checkout, and troubleshoot complex electronic systems.
- Partner with systems, software, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to transition designs from development into production.
- Provide technical guidance, participate in design reviews, and contribute to continuous improvements in engineering processes and product performance.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience developing and designing electronic circuits and multi-assembly electronic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to independently take a digital hardware design from requirements or block diagrams through complete hardware development, verification, and integration.
- Strong experience with PCB design processes, including schematic capture, circuit analysis, simulation, and design verification.
- Proven expertise developing complex multilayer circuit card assemblies and applying electrical and physical design constraints.
- Experience designing digital electronic hardware incorporating processors, FPGAs, memory, and associated interfaces.
- Familiarity with FPGA or embedded software development and experience supporting hardware programs from development through production.
- Experience defining and analyzing requirements, developing hardware architectures, selecting components, and performing engineering trade studies.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment, hardware checkout, troubleshooting, and integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience designing digital electronics for aerospace, defense, missile, or other high-reliability applications.
- Familiarity with high-speed digital interfaces and communication protocols, including PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Experience with signal…
