Position Overview
As an Optometric Technician at Target Optical, you will create exceptional value for patients by delivering outstanding service and ensuring they receive the highest quality of care. Enthusiastically satisfy guests at all times through exceptional service.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Greets guests without delay and shows urgency in providing service.
- Determines the reason for the guest's visit; explains shopping options in store and necessary procedures in the doctor’s office.
- Reviews prescriptions and patient information carefully, identifying special needs and consulting with opticians, doctors, or retail management as necessary.
- Shows patience and courtesy to indecisive or difficult guests and patients.
- Performs work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and guest volume.
- Identifies situations involving unsatisfied guests and acts quickly for resolution.
- Demonstrates knowledge of appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation/procedures.
- Handles and files all patient records in an organized and efficient manner.
- Places contact lens orders, processes shipments, and properly submits invoices for payment.
- Accurately operates the POS system, collecting proper payment when required.
- Maintains the appearance of the store and keeps displays clean, attractive, and organized.
- Informs management of potential safety opportunities.
- Demonstrates safe work practices and complies with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Performs all pre‑examination testing with accuracy, explaining measurements and answering patient questions.
- Utilizes clinical and product knowledge to provide coaching on contact lens care and handling.
- Maintains and disinfects contact lens inventory and provides clinical support to the optometrist as needed.
- Minimum of one‑year strong guest service skills (internal or external).
- High School Graduate / GED or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Strong interpersonal skills (friendly, caring, patient).
- Sales skills.
- Knowledge of store merchandise.
- Familiarity with cash register, computers, and calculators.
- Previous experience in guest service, retail, or optical.
Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements.
