Examiner Physician Assistant

As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required for this position.

These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive for service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights will facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating continuity of care for those who need it most.

Clinical Examiners will be guided through a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system, enabling you to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently or collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are also required.

Please note that this position does not involve prescribing or treatment planning.

Base pay range: $/yr – $/yr. Base + Monthly incentive: $132,891 – $162,891 per year.

• Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel required to include other LSGS Clinics.
• Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to understand the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.
• Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings, diagnostic results, and medical record review, regarding the extent of the Veteran’s health issues and their impact on ability to work and daily activities.
• Understand and work within the case management system, organizing workload, submitting examination findings, and communicating with the Quality Assurance Team.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information and insights for a thorough evaluation.
• Document examination findings accurately in medical opinions and any relevant recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
• Partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources that help complete tasks and meet deadlines.
• Manage time effectively and confirm availability and scheduling for all C&P exams, ensuring smooth service delivery to Veterans.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, maintaining accuracy, fairness, and quality.
• Collaborate with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings.
• Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and remain updated on all VA MDE program requirements.
• Safeguard confidentiality of patient information and examination results in accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy protocols.

• Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold a valid, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in any U.S. state, D.C., or territory.
• At least 1 year of experience working as a Physician Assistant.
• Preferred experience conducting medical disability examinations or a related field.
• Basic Life Support certification required, including renewals.
• Previous military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred.
• Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
