Job Description
The Health Office Assistant for Leman Academy of Excellence serves as a member of the Scholar Support Services Staff and assists the Health Coordinator in oversight of school health policies and programs. The Health Office Assistant serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.
Line of Authority/Reports toThe Health Office Assistant shall be directly responsible to the Health Coordinator, Principal and may assist the Office Manager when necessary in providing services required for the administration of the school in order to assure the smooth, efficient operation of the K-8 school office.
Job GoalThe Health Office Assistant for Leman Academy serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the Health Office Assistant provides triage healthcare and information to scholars and employees, as well as assistant in health screenings and assists in coordinating referrals if necessary.
Qualifications/MinimumRequirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification
- Two years of successful health related experience preferred.
- Current Certificate of Completion for Hearing and Vision Screening Training. (Preferred)
- School experience preferred with a working knowledge of school organization and procedures.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to positively impact school community with an ability to build strong relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, co-workers and the public at large.
- Strong commitment to providing leadership in promoting health and safety, including a healthy environment.
- Able to provide quality triage healthcare with an ability to intervene with actual and potential health problems.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services.
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, word, etc.) and familiar with other related software programs.
- Ability to work independently prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate office equipment as required on assignment; i.e. fax machine, copier, computer, etc.
- Ability to maintain an efficient filing system.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in performing assigned tasks, adopt effective courses of action, and deal effectively with parents, staff, and the general public requiring knowledge of school policies and procedures.
- Ability to lift boxes and packages of varying weights and move them to other locations.
- Works under the direction of the Health Coordinator and/or School Nurse.
- Assist with the maintenance of policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program.
- Assist with the provision of first aid care and medically prescribed services (per the state's nurse practice acts and scope of practice).
- Assist with the update of scholar medical files throughout the school year.
- Assist with the inventory and stocking of school medical supplies and first aid kits.
- Assist with the storage and administration of school supplied treatments and any parent-supplied medications.
- Serves as a health resource person for school staff and faculty.
- Partners with parents on health needs of children/scholars and communicates plan to appropriate personnel - and includes tracking and making changes as needed.
