We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team working closely with cloud giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to optimize Ubuntu for their infrastructure. Your team will build, test, and publish base Ubuntu images used by millions, ensuring performance and security in cloud environments. Our goal is to deliver the best public cloud VM experience and specialized images for various purposes, enabling differentiation on each cloud while maintaining a consistent user experience.

As an engineering manager, you will bring both technical and management skills. You will represent your team in partner engagements and ensure stability and functionality for cloud users. You will automate the delivery of Ubuntu image products across workloads from web servers to GPU AI, for servers, VMs, and containers.

Your primary responsibility is to your team: supporting their growth, ensuring valuable work, and fostering a great work environment. You will lead strong engineers, provide technical leadership, and influence culture, strategy, and execution. Fluency in Python and Golang is expected, with involvement in code reviews and architecture. Maintaining healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance is crucial, alongside fair management and high team performance.

The role entails:

  • Building and leading a team of engineers in your timezone
  • Developing talent through coaching and mentorship
  • Demonstrating sound engineering principles and contributing to team goals
  • Managing expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
  • Leading modern, agile development practices
  • Fostering a healthy, collaborative engineering culture
  • Participating in leadership and cross-team collaboration
  • Building reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
  • Engaging with teams, open source community, and partners
  • Working remotely with up to 15% travel for events
  • We are looking for:

    • Passion for mentoring and developing engineers
    • Strong software development knowledge and enthusiasm
    • Focus on successful, high-quality software delivery
    • Experience with agile methodologies
    • Bachelor's or similar degree in Computer Science or STEM
    • Experience in Python or Golang development
    • Effective communication skills
    • Practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
