Linux Systems Administrator at Areté

Tucson, AZ

Base pay range: $85,000.00 – $ per year.

This position is for a member of our Program IT team, located in Tucson, AZ
. The selected candidate must be eligible to maintain a Top Secret clearance. The role supports multiple DoD contracts, designing, installing, and configuring cyber‑compliant prototype and low‑volume production systems and networks of varying complexity. The work supports the Warfighter in direct and indirect roles, requires occasional travel and afternoon support, and is a full‑time exempt, non‑supervisory role.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design, configuration, and installation of Linux and Windows systems used on HPCs, data collectors, COTS servers, and other IT deliverables.
  • Develop, maintain, and apply expertise in cyber‑security topics such as FIPS encryption, Type 1 NSA encryption, OS, application, and network device hardening, STIGs, audit logging, endpoint protection, and more.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation packages.
  • Monitor and improve build processes performed by IT technicians to ensure identical systems.
  • Adhere to required quality control processes.
  • Support system integration activities and field tests for prototype systems as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Eligible to obtain and hold a Top Secret clearance
  • Must obtain Security+ CE or equivalent certification for DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II or higher within 90 days of employment
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a System Administrator, Engineer, Network Administrator or related role
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline and/or applicable certifications (MCSA, CCNA, Security+, RHCSA) or additional 3 years experience
  • Proficient with computer hardware configuration, software, and operating systems (primarily RHEL 8 and/or
    9)
  • Working knowledge of Bash scripting and/or Ansible
  • Experience with classified information system cyber‑security tools (Nessus/ACAS, SCC, STIGViewer) and collaboration with cyber‑security professionals
  • Expert‑level client system troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and autonomous teamwork skills
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to document/diagram systems and procedures
  • Must be able to obtain an FAA Level 3 Medical Certification
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cluster management software, RDMA configuration, Anaconda, NVIDIA driver/CUDA installation, RHEL security functions (SELinux, AIDE, firewalld, PAM, audit), iSCSI, NFS, Nvidia Jetsons
  • Administrative knowledge of Cisco Nexus NX‑OS and/or Cisco IOS
  • Experience in server hardware troubleshooting and installation
  • Experience building and configuring IT systems in a classified environment accredited under the Risk Management Framework

The salary range for this role is $85,000 – $120,000, though several factors may influence the final offer.
