Paralegal Supervisor - County Attorney - Criminal Division
The Pima County Attorney's Office is hiring for a Paralegal Supervisor in the Criminal Division. This position is responsible for supervising all paralegals and other support staff members within the division, monitoring schedules, and managing payroll. The role may also provide training for staff members when needed and work toward guiding paralegals in routine assignments and autonomous decision-making in coordinating, processing, and monitoring complex and specialized legal casework.
EssentialFunctions
- Performs paralegal duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Paralegal and Paralegal Trainer classifications.
- Leads trial teams and supervises legal support staff, including Paralegals and Paralegal Trainers.
- Plans, assigns, and reviews caseloads and workloads.
- Provides unit/division orientation for new legal support staff and serves as a resource/mentor.
- Provides training to paralegals, legal support staff, and new hire attorneys on staff roles, department protocol, and internal processes.
- Creates, manages, and oversees employees’ work schedules and payroll duties in the timekeeping system.
- Manages and oversees both the Attorneys and Unit calendars in anticipation of trial/case needs.
- Participates in personnel selection, staff evaluations, and other personnel issues and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree in paralegal, legal assistant, law, business, criminal justice, political science, interdisciplinary studies, regional development, communications, or a related field,
** or
* * a certificate of completion in paralegal or legal assistant studies from an ABA‑approved program,
** plus
* * three years of experience as a paralegal in a public/local government law office.
Relevant experience and education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.
Alternatively, two years with Pima County in a Paralegal Trainer position may satisfy the experience requirement.
Applicants will be evaluated based on the listed education and experience. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated against any advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments or testing may be required.
Licenses and CertificatesValid driver’s license required at time of application. Successful applicants will undergo a 39‑month DOT motor‑vehicle record review to determine suitability for county vehicles.
Background ChecksPre‑employment background checks are required, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. Some positions may also require a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies.
Physical/Sensory and Working ConditionsFrequent computer use and attention to detail are required. Work may involve prolonged stationary periods, occasional driving to visit clients, and handling of documents. Regular office setting with routine daily attendance is essential.
