Millroom Operator (2nd shift 4:00pm to 1:30am)

The Millroom Operator is responsible for producing custom mixed rubber compounds in accordance with prescribed procedures and schedules. This position reports to the supervisor of the Millroom. Personal contact with others will typically involve interaction with technical and quality assurance personnel to give information on product related concerns. The operator must be safety conscious, quality conscious and goal oriented. Work environment requires operation of large processing equipment, handling of hazardous chemicals, physical ability to stand, stoop and lift items up to 50 pounds, and the capability to wear a cartridge loaded half‑face respirator.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Perform specific tasks associated with the manufacture of rubber and composite products
- Recognize product/process issues and assist with troubleshooting
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Support training of employees
- Enter job data into software data collection system
- Perform accurate counts of physical inventory
- Understand and follow safe work principles
- Responsible for quality and workmanship of product produced
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Six months manufacturing experience
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to complete production forms such as product travelers
- Ability to follow work order instructions
- Ability to safely operate machines in area of assignment
- Sufficient visual acuity to inspect products
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, work orders, and written procedures
- Ability to accurately use measuring equipment such as calipers, thickness gages, weigh scales, and tape measures
- Proficient in shop math
- Experience with the manufacture of custom mixed rubber including mixing, extruding, calendaring, refining, and inspecting/testing of rubber compounds
- Operating millroom equipment such as two‑roll mills, internal mixers, extruders, and calendars
- Perform specific tasks associated with the manufacture of rubber products (assigned by Supervisor or Lead Person; execute processes per work orders; operate processing equipment such as mixer, autoclave, mill, calendar, extruder, PHI presses)
- Use measuring equipment (calipers, thickness gages, weigh scales, tape measures) and complete process control paperwork accurately
- Recognize product/process issues, know when to stop processing, notify supervisor, and assist with problem solving
- Maintain a clean work area using 6S techniques, participate in daily startup meetings, and document cleanliness
- Support training of other employees (provide training, complete training logs)
- Enter job data into software system, report material usage and labor when required
- Perform accurate counts of physical inventory and notify supervisors of low inventory levels
- Understand and follow safe work principles (wear PPE, support supervisor, identify safety features)
- Ensure quality and workmanship (visual/dimensional checks, identify and report product and equipment problems)
