Summary & Unit Information

The clinical nurse leader is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of safe and effective patient‑centered care. The Clinical Nurse Leader will facilitate and mentor staff to grow professionally, advance their knowledge and skills, and continuously assess unit needs to ensure adequate resources for current and upcoming shifts. The leader collaborates with clinical, non‑clinical, and other departments to coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients in a timely manner and upholds standards of practice by holding team members accountable for continued compliance.

Functions
  • Complies with legal, hospital, and departmental policies, procedures, and position requirements.

  • Ensures handoff communication occurs whenever there is a change in caregivers on the unit during shift and at shift start/end.
  • Assigns and delegates patient care tasks appropriately based on staff competency.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and makes recommendations.
  • Manages infection control precautions.
  • Drives one unit‑based process improvement initiative.
  • Attends and participates in 25% of monthly PCI trainings.
  • Runs debriefs with the team after codes and significant events.
  • Reports significant events such as near misses, adverse events, and patient/family complaints in a timely manner.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and monitors supplies, equipment usage.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Maintains professional standards, including state board regulations and ANA guidelines.
  • Performs other specific department tasks as assigned by leadership.
Role Specific Functions
  • EP Coordinator: Oversees EP area, coordinates with Cardiac Cath Lab lead, evaluates staffing and schedule needs, and recommends efficiencies.
  • Perioperative: Identifies high‑risk patients, performs holistic assessment, determines appropriate course of action, and requires ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • Rapid Response: Provides oversight and training; participates in rapid response, stroke, and code team responses; maintains NRCPR Database; evaluates performance for quality control.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a qualified, nationally‑accredited nursing program.

Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience in an acute‑care setting required; two (2) years preferred.

Licensure or Certification: Current RN licensure in Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications may be required per department.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of critical care techniques, tools, and responses.
  • Knowledge of rapid response, code, or stroke call procedures.
  • Some positions:
    Knowledge of electrophysiology and cardiac cath lab procedures.
  • Some positions:
    Knowledge of surgical specialties and postoperative care.
  • Some positions:
    Knowledge of chart abstraction, education, and marketing for Chest Pain, CHF, and Stroke programs.
  • Skills in evaluating performance, recommending improvements, and developing training materials.
  • Proficiency with NRCPR, PC File, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication with staff and physicians.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to listen, interpret instructions, and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
