Job Summary:
Are you a Registered Nurse (RN) looking for a flexible schedule? The Tucson Veterans' Home seeks an RN to provide geriatric nursing care, treatment, and services within the scope of license. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and hygienic environment; assigning and overseeing duties of subordinate staff; administering medical treatment and interventions per plan of care; providing limited supervision on assignments;
and working under the supervision of an RN or Physician. Pool RNs work one weekend shift per month, two additional shifts per month, one hour of in‑service training per month, and one State Service holiday per year (excluding Martin Luther King Jr/Civil Rights Day, Presidents’ Day, and Columbus Day). Night shift differentials are provided. In the event of charge nurse duties, the RN oversees all licensed nursing staff and Certified Nursing Assistants on the unit.
- Administer medication and perform treatments on an assigned unit as ordered by the physician and within the scope of license (Medication may be in oral, enteral, parenteral, suppository forms, etc.). Treatment includes sterile wound cleaning and dressing, postural drainage and percussion, tracheostomy, gastrostomy, jejunostomy care, and catheter care.
- Assess effectiveness of medication and treatments and ensure supplies and medication are available.
- Receive and deliver information regarding the resident’s medical, social function, and other needs.
- Participate in shift reports (receiving and giving).
- Communicate with residents, families, and staff to ensure appropriate interdisciplinary care.
- Complete initial admission nursing assessment on newly admitted residents.
- Assist with the development of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments, quarterly reviews, and care plans.
- Maintain clinical and administrative documentation of diagnosis, assessments, treatments, and resident progress.
- Supervise subordinate staff and assist with direct resident care for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene, and mobility.
- Conduct and participate in in‑service training and staff development programs for employed staff.
- Collect and analyze data for quality improvement and infection control programs.
- Orient and train new employees.
- Perform other technical duties as assigned (e.g., specimen collection) and respond to emergencies promptly and appropriately.

- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients, families, team members, and service providers
- One or more years of Skilled Nursing Facility or Long‑Term Care experience preferred
- Current negative TB skin test (Mantoux) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a qualified medical provider indicating absence of tuberculosis.
- Ability to obtain and retain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
- Current or temporary license to practice as an RN in Arizona.
- Current CPR certification obtained by physical assessment.
