Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse holds shift accountability for providing high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill and high-risk newborns. The NICU RN utilizes the Nursing Process in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies and procedures. This role requires strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and leadership skills to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery in a Level III NICU setting.
Number of Beds: 15
Patient Ratio: 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity
EMR: Cerner
Required QualificationsMinimum 3 years of NICU experience
Level III NICU experience
Preferred QualificationsSTABLE Certification
If census is low, travelers may be floated to Postpartum to take a newborn assignment or couplets, if experienced.
Expected Responsibilities- Attend high-risk and newborn deliveries
- Perform NICU admissions
- Start IVs and draw labs
- Manage and monitor patients on ventilators
- Deliver comprehensive, family-centered neonatal care
- Demonstrate leadership, sound clinical judgment, and critical thinking
- Maintain clinical competencies through ongoing education
- Delegate and supervise patient care activities appropriately based on staff skill level and experience
- Anticipate and plan for safe delivery of patient care
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel involved in patient care
- Uphold hospital standards, policies, and procedures at all times
