Postdoctoral Research Associate, Biomedical Engineering
The Song lab at the University of Arizona Department of Biomedical Engineering is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to advance regenerative therapies for spinal cord injury. Our fully funded NIH-supported group develops neuromodulation devices integrating advanced materials science and stem cell therapy to evaluate their therapeutic potential for neurotrauma. We seek candidates with research experience in small animal models related to spinal cord injuries and a strong background in relevant molecular and cellular assays and animal behaviour testing.
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct and analyze experiments, contribute to research proposals, presentations, and publications, and receive mentorship from the principal investigator.
- Conduct independent research on evaluating regenerative therapies with in vitro cell culture studies and in vivo animal models.
- Carry out analysis of research samples using advanced techniques and validate the measurements.
- Document, process, and analyse research data.
- Disseminate research results through publishing papers and presenting at recognised scientific journals and conferences.
- Help oversee a team of graduate and undergraduate research assistants to conduct the studies.
- Participate in and prepare grant writing with the principal investigator.
- Contribute to report writing for funding sponsors.
- Maintain lab equipment regularly and help oversee a lab to conduct experiments safely.
- Ability to acquire new skills beyond current expertise to achieve project objectives.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in neurotrauma.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Ph.D. in Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, conferred upon hire.
- Strong scientific track record demonstrating well-organised design and execution of studies.
- Experience with cell biology, chemistry, and/or tissue engineering.
- Experience with cell culture.
- Experience with immunostaining, western blot, flow cytometry, ELISAs, qPCR, and microscopy.
- Experience with animal behaviour, surgery, and tissue harvest.
Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
