Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate I - Physiology

Overview

Postdoctoral Research Associate I - Physiology. Posting details for the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine - Tucson campus, seeking to join the lab of Associate Professor Shaowen Bao. The position conducts investigations of the mechanisms underlying noise trauma-induced neuronal death using advanced molecular, cellular and electrophysiological techniques. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience with extracellular electrophysiology, immunofluorescence imaging, circuit tracing, behavioral testing and patch clamp recording.

The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team in the daily function of the laboratory. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and participate in all aspects of the research project, including evaluating data, revising and improving techniques, and developing innovative methods while meeting goals and priorities within time and funding constraints.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, design, and conduct novel research on noise trauma-induced cell death.
  • Responsible for the operation of this specialized research area/lab.
  • Use extensive knowledge to formulate research methods and develop research criteria for all projects in accordance with the standards of peer reviewed journals and industry affiliates, as well as develop and collaborate on new research techniques and equipment.
  • Develop and establish functional timelines to complete assigned work to meet the requirements of the research obligations.
  • Lab equipment management.
  • Participate in the strategy, structure, and development of grant proposals inclusive of grant writing, protocol development, and scope of work definition.
  • Participate in the acquisition of new research funding by effectively using domain expertise in tandem with a clear understanding core research capabilities for evaluating grant and industry sponsored project opportunities.
  • Author, co-author, present and co-present research results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidate must have a PhD completed in the field of neuroscience or neurophysiology before anticipated start date.
