Postdoctoral Research Associate II - Physiology
The Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson seeks to hire multiple Postdocs to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Qiu. The primary focus of the research position is to study cardiovascular and kidney diseases. The ideal candidate will have a solid background and prior experience in one or more of the following areas, demonstrated by a strong publication record:
1) bioinformatics and related areas;
2) cell and molecular biology and related areas; or
3) animal model physiology and related areas. Candidates must have a PhD, or MD/PhD degree, and be self‑motivated. The candidates are expected to carry out the projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas related to the projects, executing experiments proficiently and timely, and analyzing data professionally. The scientists are expected to handle multiple projects, to write scientific papers and reviews, and to present work at scientific conferences.
The scientists are expected to work with students and technicians, including assay development, problem solving, data analysis, interpreting results, and planning follow‑up experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities- Perform independent research in one or more of the following areas under the direction of the principal investigator:
- Perform bioinformatic analysis of large datasets.
- Maintain mouse and rat colonies and perform physiological experiments in mice and rats or ex vivo tissues.
- Perform tissue/cell culture and experiments related to cell and molecular biology and multi‑omics.
- Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
- Participate in writing articles for peer‑reviewed journals, books or chapter publications. Participate or present at meetings and conferences.
- Contribute to laboratory management including:
- Maintain and service laboratory equipment.
- Laboratory purchasing and budgeting.
- Manage biosafety requirements.
- Organize laboratory and implement procedures.
- Coordinate with building/facilities management, gas delivery, and other key research infrastructure.
- Supervise laboratory staff.
- Train graduate students, undergraduate interns, and other staff.
- Regularly meet with laboratory trainees.
- Set SOPs for the laboratory.
- Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD degree completed before the anticipated start date.
- PhD or MD/PhD with a strong publication record in bioinformatics, cell/molecular biology, or animal model physiology.
- Experience with grant writing and independent project leadership.
