Position HighlightsThe Stern Laboratory, within the Department of Medicine, is seeking a full-time Research Technician III to conduct research aimed at understanding the role of aging in the progression of metabolic disease. The incumbent is expected to perform wet laboratory and in vivo animal procedures, clean/maintain laboratory equipment, and maintain the Stern laboratory's mouse colony. The selected applicant must be comfortable and efficient in a fast-paced, dynamic, and growing environment.

Duties & Responsibilities- Performs in vivo animal studies and experimental procedures per established protocols utilizing moderately complex wet laboratory equipment implementing the following techniques: biochemical assays, immunoblotting, RT/qPCR, primary cell and tissue cultures, oral glucose and insulin tolerance testing in mice, injections (intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and IV), and genotyping genetically engineered mice with minimal supervision.
- Analyzes data generated from experiments and uses graphing software to assist the PI in preparation of data figures for manuscripts, grant applications, and conference presentations.
- Manages mouse colony, including husbandry, breeding and weaning, and genotyping.
- Maintains detailed mouse databases and facilitates the transition to appropriate projects within the lab.
- Assists in administrative and maintenance duties involved in general laboratory management, such as bookkeeping, ordering supplies, preparation of solutions, maintaining laboratory compliance.
- Maintains detailed records of experimental procedures and analysis of results for presentation purposes.
- Assists PI in preparation of animal protocols and IACUC compliance.
- Develops and updates standard operating procedures and compliance records as needed.
- Assists in training graduate students and undergraduate student workers.
- Previous experience with and extensive knowledge in performing vivo mouse procedures, wet lab work, and experience with organizing and maintaining large datasets preferred.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and adhere to all safety policies.
- Self-motivation, a good work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, and an ability to work independently are essential.

Minimum Qualifications- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
