The Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine‑Tucson seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate II to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Qiu. The primary focus is cardiovascular and kidney diseases. Candidates should have a solid background and experience, demonstrated by a strong publication record, in one or more of the following areas: (1) bioinformatics and related areas;
(2) cell and molecular biology and related areas; or (3) animal model physiology and related areas. A PhD (or MD/PhD) degree is required, and candidates must be self‑motivated and capable of carrying out projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas, executing experiments, analyzing data, and writing scientific papers.

Duties & Responsibilities- Perform independent research in one or more of the following areas under the direction of the principal investigator: bioinformatic analysis of large datasets; maintenance of mouse and rat colonies and physiological experiments in mice and rats or ex vivo tissues; tissue/cell culture and experiments related to cell and molecular biology and multi‑omics; participation in acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
- Participate in writing articles for peer‑reviewed journals, books, or chapter publications; participate or present at meetings and conferences.
- Contribute to laboratory management: maintain and service laboratory equipment; laboratory purchasing and budgeting; manage biosafety requirements; organize laboratory and implement procedures; coordinate with building/facilities management, gas delivery, and other key research infrastructure; supervise laboratory staff; train graduate students, undergraduate interns, and other staff; regularly meet with laboratory trainees; set SOPs for the laboratory.
- PhD or MD/PhD degree completed before the anticipated start date; strong publication record; ability to conduct independent research with minimal supervision; experience in bioinformatics, cell/molecular biology, or animal model physiology.
Preferred experience in cardiovascular or kidney disease research, grant writing, and laboratory management; familiarity with budget and biosafety regulations.
