Cost Accountant, Financial Analyst

Job SummaryThe Cost Accountant is a key member of the Finance team responsible for developing accurate product and project costing, improving margin visibility, supporting operational decision-making, and strengthening cost controls. The Cost Accountant will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Project Engineering, Production, and Sales to ensure costs are properly captured, analyzed, and reported.
Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and update standard cost models for manufactured products in the ERP system.
- Manage project-based costing for engineered-to-order products, including setup, tracking, and analysis.
- Maintain and analyze inventory valuation for raw materials, work-in-process, semi-finished, and finished goods.
- Perform weekly and monthly WIP analysis and reconciliations, including project-level WIP.
- Review and support standard cost updates, including annual and periodic re-costing activities.
- Monitor, analyze, and explain manufacturing variances related to material, labor, and overhead.
- Maintain product and cost-related financial master data to ensure accuracy within the ERP system.
- Support month-end close activities related to inventory, WIP, and cost of goods sold.
- Develop margin, variance, and profitability reporting by product, product line, customer, and project.
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Sales to support cost estimating, quoting, pricing decisions, and cost improvement initiatives.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with project-based or engineer-to-order manufacturing preferred.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing variances.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite, SAP, Epicor, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration across finance, sales, engineering, operations, and supply chain teams.
This is a salaried, exempt position with starting pay range of $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience.

Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Also required is the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, to lift up to 50lbs, climb ladders and stairs, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.
Must be able to walk extended distances over uneven ground while wearing proper PPE.
