The Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI) organization seeks a highly skilled Research & Development Structural Analysis Engineer to join our Materials & Structures organization in Tukwila, WA.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including :
Mid-Level and Senior Research & Development Structural Analysis Engineer

BTI develops and matures technologies to support our Boeing’s commercial, defense, rotorcraft, and space programs. Our Materials & Structures team develops structural architectures, analysis methods, and transitions technologies into product programs. We seek a Senior R&D Structural Analysis Engineer to lead projects in composite structural analysis method development.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the analysis of aircraft structures and materials, including expertise in composite structural analysis, multidisciplinary analysis (e.g., vibroacoustic analysis, optimization, non-linear FEA), and/or structural analysis method development. This role requires a versatile engineer who can drive collaborative research initiatives, support the capture of external contracted research and development (CRAD) programs, and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to address opportunities in Boeing platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of working across the aerospace industry, academia, and collaborating with government agencies to develop and execute impactful R&D programs.

What you’ll do
  • Lead projects and cross‑functional teams to develop and mature structural analysis methods and tools for Boeing platforms.

  • Perform and direct nonlinear finite element analyses and multidisciplinary studies (e.g., vibroacoustic, structural optimization, repair analyses) for composite aircraft structures.

  • Develop and validate FE models, novel UMAT/VUMATs, scripts, or custom analysis tools; produce verification plans, technical reports, and presentations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Collaborate across global, cross‑functional teams and with external partners (industry, academia, government) to capture and manage external R&D programs aligned to Boeing strategy.

  • Support both commercial and defense projects; meet export‑control and security clearance requirements.

  • Investigate emerging technologies and contribute to transition strategy onto product programs.

Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)

  • Demonstrated expertise in structural analysis, including but not limited to nonlinear FEA.

  • Demonstrated leadership of R&D or technical teams and projects.

  • Experience collaborating across functional teams and with external customers/partners.

  • Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required for clearance).

Preferred qualifications
  • 5+ years relevant experience (or equivalent education + experience).

  • Hands‑on experience with Abaqus, Nastran, or similar FEA tools and with creating UMATs/VUMATs.

  • Proficiency with Python (or similar) scripting and development of analysis workflows/tools.

  • Experience in multidisciplinary analysis (vibroacoustic, optimization) and/or structural repair analyses.

  • Active U.S. security clearance preferred.
