About the Agency

The Animal Health Branch (AHB) functions as California’s organized, professional veterinary medical unit to protect public health, animal agriculture, and the economy from catastrophic animal diseases and other related health and agricultural problems. AHB addresses livestock diseases and issues that require statewide coordinated resources; implements programs that protect public health and animal agriculture; and ensures the availability, affordability, and wholesomeness of food.

Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Supervising Veterinarian, the Agricultural Technician I will perform a variety of office and field functions of average difficulty in support of an emergency animal disease response. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Field support to control animal pests and diseases
  • Data entry and management to aid the control of animal pests and diseases
  • Support field investigations and sample collection as directed by the supervising veterinarian
  • Assist in the implementation of animal disease prevention and control programs
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of activities, results, and reporting.

Working Conditions

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors and may require working under difficult conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Medical evaluation for respiratory protective equipment and annual fit testing and training are required. The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies.
