Job Summary
Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital is seeking a dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist (PRN) to join our Labor and Delivery team and support exceptional care for mothers and newborns. The Certified Surgical Technologist is an unlicensed member of the surgical team who scrubs and/or assists during surgical procedures. The position functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and provides direct and indirect patient care for patients of all ages, by assisting in the preparation of the patient and environment for the performance of surgical procedures.
It is the Certified Surgical Technologist’s responsibility to know the Surgeon’s routine and preferences.

About the DepartmentVanderbilt Tullahoma‑Harton Hospital’s Labor and Delivery Department offers compassionate, high‑quality care for mothers and newborns in a supportive, fast‑paced environment. The unit includes labor and delivery, postpartum care, a newborn nursery, and a Level II NICU, with services such as epidurals, lactation support, childbirth education, and celebratory amenities. Staff benefit from a thorough orientation and opportunities for professional growth, while patients receive personalized care with access to advanced pediatric and maternal services through the Vanderbilt network.
Key Responsibilities- Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
- Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
- Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning; monitors and restocks supplies.
- Drapes patients for surgical procedures; maintains and cares for equipment and supplies; documents maintenance and repairs.
- Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
- Consistently provides accurate and complete hand‑off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
- Graduate of an approved specific discipline or successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during service as a member of any branch of the United States armed forces.
- Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
- Certification from NBSTSA CST or NCCT TS‑C; exception: if graduate of armed forces training program, no certification required.
