Job Summary

The Certified Surgical Technologist is an unlicensed member of the surgical team who scrubs and/or assists during surgical procedures. This position functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Certified Surgical Technologist provides direct and indirect patient care, for patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric by assisting in the preparation of the patient and environment for the performance of surgical procedures.

It is the Certified Surgical Technologist s responsibility to know the Surgeon s routine and preferences.

Position Details
  • Full Time | M-F | 11am – 7pm
  • Call Requirement: 30-minute report-in time

Sign-On and Relocation Bonuses
  • Sign-on bonus: $20,000 (taxable) to be paid over 2 years. Not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months.
  • Relocation bonus:
    Eligible new hires may receive up to $10,000 (taxable) in relocation assistance, based on mileage, payable within 45 days of hire. Must relocate from greater than 100 miles to be eligible. Not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months.

Be part of a dynamic surgical team in a 135-bed facility offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient procedures. Our OR team supports specialties including orthopedics, gynecology, urology, general surgery, and more. We emphasize teamwork, patient safety, and high-quality care in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Plan, set up, perform, and clean up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech.
  • Perform sharp, sponge, and instrument counts according to policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply the Principles of Asepsis in maintaining the sterile field.
  • Responsibilities listed are a general overview; additional duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program or successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during service in any branch of the U.S. armed forces.
  • Preferred: 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Required:

    Certification from NBSTSA CST (National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants Certified Surgical Technologist) or NCCT TS-C (Tech In Surgery).
  • Exception:
    If graduate of a surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.
