Supervise and lead a team of electricians, instrumentation technicians, and machinists. Provide leadership, coordinate plans, schedule, and administer daily work activities, ensuring all work is performed using safe work practices and established procedures. Direction of work activities will include operations support and maintenance across multiple facilities and work shifts.
Responsibilities- Lead and direct mid-size multi-discipline work groups, ensuring personnel have the required safety, occupational, procedural training and certification for assignments.
- Support operations and maintenance branch goals, missions, and compliance to standards. Work with Systems, Test, Project Engineers, Managers, Safety Office, and customer personnel providing craft resources and support.
- Provide technical, managerial, and safety reports to the Operations Branch Manager outlining the team’s accomplishments.
- Review and approve team members’ timesheets, and generate and submit purchase requests for maintenance and project needs.
- Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maximo to create and track preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
- Support and supervise Facility Service Managers (FSMs) at various buildings in NASA Ames Research Center and set shift schedules for the electrical crew.
- Attend weekly Test in Progress and Management Safety Committee meetings; maintain maintenance records and systems.
- Train and qualify operators and electrical maintenance personnel at wind tunnels and support facilities.
- Continuously update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and lead improvement efforts with technical and operational training requirements.
- High school diploma or trade school experience; five to ten years of experience in operation, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical systems.
- AA degree or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program is a positive criteria.
- Experience in facility, maintenance, and project management in an industrial facility environment.
- Experience in a supervisory/management role.
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) and/or Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certifications are a plus.
- Thorough practical knowledge of electrical and/or control systems, familiarity with NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Excellent understanding of electrical safety, proper selection and use of PPE, and knowledge of LOTO and confined space procedures.
- Strong electrical, analytical, mechanical, and solution‑driven skills. Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, sketches, and procedures.
- Capacity to perform routine maintenance, diagnostic testing, and repairs on equipment including low and medium voltage systems up to 13.8 kV.
Ability to perform work in confined spaces; participate in a Hearing Conservation Program; lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
Work EnvironmentWork will be both inside and outside. Field work may involve extreme temperatures, high noise levels, high‑speed rotating machinery, confined spaces, working at heights, and systems containing high potential energy.
Equipment and Machines Involved in Work TasksLarge electrical and mechanical equipment such as high‑pressure compressors, lubrication and cooling pumps, motors, valves, cooling tower fans, large AC motors, capacitors, battery banks, vacuum pumps, and office equipment including desktop computers, MS Word, Excel, fax, CMMS database, scanners, and printers.
Criticality of AttendanceStandard work week is 40 hours (8 h/day, Monday–Friday 6:30 am–3:00 pm). Occasional overtime during regular days and some weekends may be required. Second and third shift work may be required at times.
Other Essential FunctionsIdentify and mitigate work hazards; use safe work practices; work well in a team environment; obtain a security clearance if required; obtain a NASA badge and maintain access; adhere to safety, quality, environmental, and ethical standards; perform other duties as required.
