The Manager, Business Development is responsible for leading project/business development activities in identifying and cultivating various market opportunities, while also developing strategies to capture them in conjunction with business strategies. This role is also responsible for making project assignments and delegating work within the group, providing mentorship on sophisticated business development issues.

Day in the Life

A Manager of Business Development - Power Innovation will revolve around driving strategic growth in power generation. You will review origination opportunities, advance project development initiatives, and ensure each step aligns with long‑term goals. You will engage with hyperscalers and co‑locators, build strong relationships, and negotiate terms that lead to successful conversions into long‑term PPAs. Your role will demand a blend of business acumen and commercial expertise—whether you are pitching new concepts, navigating complex negotiations, or leveraging deep industry knowledge to close deals.

Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Develop innovative services, technologies, processes, or products that address customer problems or needs and capture growth opportunities.
  • Coordinate workforce planning and career development activities for team members.
  • Lead representatives that manage large projects or programs and structure and negotiate project agreements.
  • Estimate contributors to costs and accurately forecast financial information like costs and revenue, and make prudent decisions regarding expenditures using financial data to guide actions and performance.
  • Consider industry and market trends when making decisions; identify which efforts will have the greatest strategic impact on the organization.
  • Balance strategic concerns with day‑to‑day activities while considering future possibilities and scenarios that may affect the team and organization.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of commercial aspects of the energy industry with understanding of energy market fundamentals and economics, including commodity pricing, basin market fundamentals, and competitor strategies and actions.
  • Develop opinions and challenge recommendations on basin, customer, and competitor intelligence based on third‑party tools and publications.
  • Create strategies for developing commercial knowledge and demonstrate a problem‑solving mentality for sophisticated issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related fields; a minimum of fifteen (15) years of related experience.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree.
Other Requirements
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational/interpersonal skills with safety as the utmost priority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and PC skills.
  • Knowledge of upstream, midstream, downstream, or renewable assets/industries.
  • Experience with asset development and/or commercial ventures.
  • Preferred:
    Previous supervisory experience.
