Job Summary: Superintendent manages heavy civil construction projects (street and road), ensuring safe and efficient completion in compliance with federal and state highway regulations.
Responsibilities- Independently manage projects in concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and underground utilities, stormwater, and sanitary sewer.
- Supervise and lead crew and subcontractors, maintaining a "safety first" mindset at all times.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, building plans, and instructions.
- Use independent judgment to identify and execute best quality and most efficient construction methods to meet plan specifications, budget, and contract timeline.
- Create and meet or beat 3‑week look‑ahead production schedules based on the overall project schedule, including labor, equipment, materials, tools, and current project status.
- Forecast and manage project phases to meet or beat budget while maximizing profit and production.
- Calculate man‑hours and cost coding, and maximize profit through profitable use of time.
- Submit daily equipment requests to the Construction Manager based on upcoming project needs.
- Identify and execute best practices for techniques, material use, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Perform stringent quality control management.
- Operate a company vehicle safely on a daily basis.
- Create and maintain production records, including crew timekeeping, cost coding, calculated quantities, and detailed daily project reporting with photos.
- Effectively lead subcontractors, scheduling, oversight, and quality scrutiny.
- Identify and report issues that could affect the project plan and devise solutions.
- Be present and involved in all inspections, communicating effectively with inspectors.
- 10 years of street and road construction experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Heavy Job software and iPad applications is a plus.
- Bilingual language skills are a plus.
- Must pass pre‑employment and random drug screens.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be driver insurable, and maintain a clean MVR.
- Physical requirements typical of heavy civil construction industry.
- Must demonstrate excellent attendance.
