ResponsibilitiesCDM Smith’s CEI team in Mississippi (Jackson to Starkville) – Natchez Trace Parkway is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). The inspector must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities for at least two of the five categories of construction inspection:
Roadway, Bridges, Drainage, Erosion & Control, and Maintenance & Traffic. The candidate will work under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment. Work will require knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; geometry and basic mathematics; the ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and strong communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications from a State Highway Agency or a national entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Four years of related experience (equivalent directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree). Domestic and/or international travel may be required; the frequency of travel depends on duties and project demands.

Skills and Abilities• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Basic knowledge of arithmetic.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs.
• Intermediate knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
CDM Smith reserves the right to require background checks, including criminal, employment, education, licensure, credit, and motor vehicle records. Drug testing may be required for designated positions. Background checks occur after an offer of employment. For positions outside the United States, testing follows country statutory law, but will not precede an interview. Successful completion of required checks is mandatory for employment, though criminal history does not automatically disqualify a candidate.
