This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered for tentative selection but cannot be hired until all are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the requirements under previous standards are deemed qualified.
Basic Requirements- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy
- Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program (ACGME, AOA, or equivalent)
- Residents enrolled in accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred:
Board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology - Physical requirements include moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, rapid mental and muscular coordination, and visual and auditory capabilities
- Evaluate and manage patients referred for radiology consultations and procedures
- Supervise and interpret various radiographic exams, including CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and nuclear medicine scans
- Evaluate breast-related signs and symptoms, including mammography and ultrasound
- Perform biopsies and interventional procedures for breast and axilla
- Provide guidance and perform interventional procedures
