Physician – Hematology/Oncology

The Muskogee VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full‑time Physician – Hematology/Oncology to work in our Tulsa, Oklahoma facility.

Qualifications
  • Basic Requirements
    • United States Citizenship (Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy).
    • Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine (obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs).
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
    • Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Residency approval may come from ACGME, AOA, or other residencies with a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
    • Physician Residents in accredited programs eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee basis only.
    • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and not considered independent practitioners.
    • Preferred:
      Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology/Oncology.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    • Physical Requirements:

      Pre‑employment physical; applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Preferred Experience
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible preferred.
    • Extensive experience in Hematology/Oncology.
Duties
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for hematologic cancers, including history taking, physical examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Consult on acute care complaints, diseases, and injuries.
  • Diagnose and treat hematologic diseases; administer chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Round with residents and fellows on the inpatient ward.
  • Cover weekend call rotation with other physicians.
  • Participate in tele‑medicine services between the main medical center and community‑based outpatient clinics.
  • Assist with the diagnosis and interpretation of pulmonary nodules.
  • Prescribe and refill medications within the defined scope of practice.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families.
  • Interpret laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiologic studies; order diagnostic studies.
  • Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned case load.
