Job Summary
The School of Mathematics & Engineering is seeking an Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin fall 2026. The Assistant Professor has the primary responsibility of instruction in the classroom for students enrolled in Mathematics courses, as well as ensuring the success and retention of students while maintaining high academic standards. Candidates should have the ability and willingness to teach all levels of mathematics courses from developmental through college level.
EssentialDuties
- Design and deliver student learning experiences and assess student progress.
- Provide constructive and timely communication with students and colleagues.
- Guide and mentor students in and outside the classroom to promote their success.
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote learning and professional growth.
- Engage in ongoing professional and development.
- Serve the college and community as an active contributing professional.
- Master's degree in Mathematics, or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics or Statistics. Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.
- Teaching
Experience:
Proven success in navigating various teaching modalities, including face‑to‑face, hybrid, and fully asynchronous online formats. Experience in teaching mathematics at the post‑secondary level, demonstrating proficiency across various mathematical disciplines. - Expertise in the Subject Matter: In‑depth knowledge and expertise in mathematics, with the ability to convey abstract concepts in a clear and accessible manner. A strong foundation in a range of mathematical topics, from basic to advanced, depending on the courses to be taught.
- Pedagogical Innovation: Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching methods, with an emphasis on fostering critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Ability to leverage technology and interactive tools to enhance the learning experience in mathematics.
- Engagement and Communication
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students in diverse learning environments. Ability to create a supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages active participation and collaborative learning. - Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to tailor teaching strategies to the needs of students, adjusting methods to suit different learning styles.
- Research and Scholarship: An interest in and commitment to scholarly activities related to mathematics, contributing to the advancement of the field.
- Commitment to Continuous Improvement: A commitment to staying current with advancements in mathematical research, educational best practices, and technological tools.
- Innovation in Classroom Pedagogy: A track record of incorporating innovative teaching practices, such as problem‑based learning, group projects, and applications of mathematics in real‑world contexts.
By possessing these qualifications and characteristics, the ideal candidate would be well‑equipped to deliver high‑quality education in Mathematics and contribute to the overall success of the academic program.
Preferred Qualifications- Prefer teaching experience at the community college or university level.
- Ph.D. preferred.
