Special Education Teacher – Tulsa Public Schools

To the maximum extent possible, the Special Education Teacher works either within a self‑contained special education classroom or as a co‑teacher within the general education setting. When required, the Teacher designs and implements small group or individualized instruction per students’ IEPs, consistently establishes effective rapport with students through research‑based intervention techniques, and collaborates with a team of paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, parents and central office staff to provide quality educational services for each student, every day, without exception.

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Working with children who are disabled

• Oklahoma Teaching Certification with an endorsement of Mild/Moderate Special Education or Severe/Profound Special Education
• Preference for applicants who are highly qualified in the content areas of math, reading, language arts, science, or social studies; to demonstrate highly qualified status, completed HOUSSE with documentation or certification in the content area is required.

• Computer literacy and accurate use of EdPlan (state IEP program)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

• Adequate physical strength and mobility for de‑escalation and emergency intervention strategies
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Must be able to frequently lift more than 50 lbs with assistance
