As a Test Technician at NOV’s Springett Technology Center (STC), you will play a pivotal role in advancing the development of cutting-edge technologies within the oil and gas sector. STC is dedicated to testing and validating new tools, software, and mechanical systems before commercial release. Working directly with our live-drilling Ideal Prime Rig 1, as well as other test beds like our automated coiled tubing unit, Rig Controls Simulator, and processing facility, you will ensure that innovations meet the highest performance and safety standards.
OverviewThis hands-on position involves rig operation, test execution, and equipment maintenance. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work in a dynamic environment that fosters learning across disciplines, including Downhole Tools, Control Automation, Robotics, and Pump Testing.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain drilling rigs and various test equipment across the facility.
- Support daily rig operations and contribute to a culture of safety for all personnel and third-party visitors.
- Utilize the Amphion control system to execute complex drilling operations for varied testing objectives.
- Independently interpret drilling parameters and respond to bit/tool/hole conditions during live-well scenarios.
- Execute and support well plans involving vertical and directional wellbore profiles; provide operational feedback to test teams.
- Assemble and manage Bottom Hole Assemblies (BHAs) and prototype tools with a high level of precision.
- Conduct maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical and electrical test equipment.
- Document preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment status, coordinating with Service Technicians when needed.
- Stay current with NOV technologies to execute tests, provide engineering feedback, and conduct customer/training demonstrations.
- Identify and respond to Well Control situations; perform BOP drills following industry best practices.
- Lead or participate in safety meetings, risk assessments (JHAs), and proactively report hazards to leadership.
- Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and safely perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting.
- 5+ years of drilling, completions, or production experience in the oil and gas industry.
- IADC Drilling Well Control Driller Certification (active or previously held).
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical aptitude; engineering experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Coiled Tubing and Workover Equipment is beneficial.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience operating forklifts, manlifts, or other heavy equipment; certifications preferred.
- Solid understanding of oilfield equipment, tools, and operational best practices.
- Demonstrated team player with excellent communication skills.
- Flexible and responsive to shifting priorities and testing schedules.
- Familiarity or interest in Digital Oilfield and Industry 4.0
