Role OverviewSenior Telecommunications Engineers work on various projects as assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer. The position will play a role in the entire design process including preliminary assessments, concept creation, internal and external problem resolution, drawing and specification production, customer and vendor accessibility, serving as the EoR for designs and providing coverage for Project leads. Depending on bandwidth, this person may also lead projects.
The Senior Telecommunications Engineer may work on several concurrent projects and will be responsible to ensure that projects are completed on time.
Responsibilities- Lead the BIM designers in preparation of engineering drawings.
- Develop or modify DIV 27 specifications.
- Conduct site visits.
- Review technical documents.
- Learn from more senior team leaders and be mentored.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
- Mentor other team members.
- Work with the lead engineer and/or department manager to identify processes that make the department run more efficiently.
- Electrical Engineering or Communication Engineering bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience actively designing or leading designs for Telecommunications structured cabling systems.
- Thorough knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
- Thorough knowledge of NFPA 70 and its application to telecommunications structured cabling systems.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam.
- Self‑motivation to coordinate with other disciplines, project managers, and clients.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Familiarity with responding to RFPs.
- Experience in providing Quality Assurance and checking of telecommunications systems designed by others.
- Experience with start‑up and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
- Experience creating a budget for a project.
- Experience creating and maintaining a project schedule.
- Experience identifying and mitigating company risk.
- PE license; ability to obtain multiple PE licenses is required.
- 4 years of Telecommunications design experience in Data Centers.
- Experience working on other low‑voltage systems such as security, audio/visual, wireless.
- Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks design software platforms.
- Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for controls systems and security systems.
- Thorough knowledge of CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
- Credential as an RCDD.
