Job Title
Consumables Development Engineer
Job SummaryThis position focuses on consumables for our pumping products, including valves & seats, packing, seals, pistons, liners, and other high-volume, frequently replaced components. The Consumables Development Engineer will design and develop innovative consumable products and technology solutions that deliver superior performance to the oil and gas industry. This role involves managing product development and improvement projects from initiation to completion, including collaboration across functional teams and engagement with customers.

- Product and Technology Innovation: Execute R&D activities to discover new technologies, materials, and design methods for product development. Tasks include research, concept ideation, prototyping, testing, data analysis, and final development.
- Product Improvement: Enhance existing product designs to improve performance, quality, and reliability.
- Failure Analysis: Lead product failure investigations and develop corrective actions to improve performance and prevent recurrence.
- Production Support: Resolve production issues and support manufacturing process improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with internal teams to define project requirements, allocate resources, and coordinate tasks for timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Customer Communication and Support: Interface with customers across field and corporate locations to understand needs, provide technical support, and gather Voice of Customer (VOC) for product development.
- Project Management: Manage development projects from conception to delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Problem Solving: Apply advanced technical skills to diagnose design, process, and application issues, delivering efficient solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records, including 2D/3D drawings, specifications, test results, BOMs, manuals, and analysis reports.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and practices through ongoing learning and professional development.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting, wear analysis, chemical compatibility, and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members across all organizational levels.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage independently with customers in both office and field settings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience with rubber molding, plastic injection molding, and seal design/manufacturing is preferred.
- Knowledge of pump design, statistical analysis, and Finite Element Analysis is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Auto Desk Inventor, and ERP systems like SAP.
- Skilled in 3D modeling, 2D drafting using ASME standards and GD&T.
- Willingness to travel moderately (10-20%) by car and air.
- Extended periods of sitting and computer work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
