Sr. Traffic Engineer – GFT is seeking an experienced engineer to join our Transportation Team at any of the following locations:
Kansas City, MO;
Wichita, KS;
Omaha, NE;
Denver, CO;
St. Louis, MO;
Tulsa, OK;
Oklahoma City, OK. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of these office locations.
- Prepare and direct traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies; complete design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings.
- Plan and develop engineering projects focused on unique or controversial problems; research, define scope, and develop novel concepts.
- Execute technical studies, project design, specifications, and technical plans independently or as part of a team.
- Review project design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements.
- Coordinate technical developments, scheduling, and manpower; resolve engineering design problems.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Manage project scope, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and track progress.
- Ensure projects are completed within allocated time and budget.
- Advocate for and mentor entry‑level engineers.
- Maintain liaison with internal and external units on technical matters.
- Plan and execute project meetings; maintain quality control and assurance guidelines.
- Interpret contract changes and advise management.
- Maintain professional skills by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies.
- Assist in preparation of business proposals.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years professional experience in Traffic and/or Highway engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Kansas or Missouri; other state licensure acceptable if obtained.
- Experience with KDOT, MoDOT, or other local transportation agencies.
- Experience with traffic and safety analysis; knowledge of MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
- Experience using traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM).
- Experience designing traffic control elements – signals, signage, pavement markings, and work‑zone plans.
- Proficient with Micro Station CAD, MS Excel and Word;
Open Roads Designer preferred. - Strong mathematical skills, including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Excellent communication; ability to present to management and public groups.
- Team player who encourages reciprocal learning and embraces diversity and inclusion.
- Preferred:
Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
Salary range: $125,000 – $165,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
