Job Summary:

The Controls Designer/Drafter (CD) is responsible for the design, layout, and subsequent drafting packages for combustion control systems with an emphasis on electrical/instrumentation design. Duties include participating in turnover meetings, coordination and discussion with Controls Engineers/Project Engineers, efficient schedule management of tasking, and delivering finished control system packages for engineering review.

The Rapid Execution group specializes in delivering quality OEM equipment packages to both domestic and international customers in short lead times. Project portfolios can include various complex systems that must be delivered in critical windows to keep customers operational. The CD will interact closely with internal Project, Controls, and Applications engineering teams during the project lifecycle. Once an order is released to the execution team, the CD will take the job turnover package with relevant notes from Project Engineering and Controls Engineering to generate an initial draft of the combustion control system.

Tasking will be given directly from Controls Engineers as well as the Controls Engineering Manager;
Project Engineering may be involved in various tasking dependent on scheduling and complexity of efforts. Once design is complete and finalized for release, additional work may be required throughout project lifecycle based on various factors including scope creep, change orders, standardization, etc.

Our customers rely on proactive efforts and communication as most often they are dealing with equipment requirements that are a critical path with direct impact to their revenue stream. This position enables the CD to function in a role that is professionally fulfilling and keeps them engaged in execution throughout the project lifecycle. With exposure to the large product portfolio offered within this department, our personnel see exponential experience gain compared to the same timeline with equivalent positions.

Job Description/Duties:

  • Once customer order is confirmed and released internally:
  • Confirm equipment selection, design, and operation as quoted/sold to customer.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams on equipment and component selection for design of the combustion control system.
  • Electrical Wiring Design (Ladder diagram)
  • PLC Layout
  • Overall Schematic Design
  • Bill of Materials
  • Application of relevant codes, standards, specifications, etc. as required
  • Interact with Controls Engineer and Controls Engineering Manager on system design and scheduling as needed
  • Interact with Project Engineer on scheduling and clarifications with customer
  • Perform additional duties as assigned/required.
  • Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree (Preferred: Engineering or Technology field relative to Instrumentation, Electrical, MET, Inst. Tech) or equivalent experience as justified.
  • 2+ years design and/or drafting experience with electrical systems, instrumentation, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&).
  • 2+ years experience with AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Prefer experience (related) in any of the below:
  • Familiarity with:
    • Programmable Logic Controllers
    • Power Distribution
    • Relay Logic
    • Variable Frequency Drives
    • Voltages 12

      VDC up to 480

      VAC
  • Familiarity with local and federal codes, regulations, specifications, etc.
  • To include NRTL applications such as UL/cUL
  • CSA and NFPA application experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with standard wiring practices and installation methods in both unclassified and classified areas.
  • Above can be excluded if provided with equivalent combination of education and experience.
